April 18 was a run-line day first, and the top plays backed it up. The strongest edge group finished 3-1, while the full run-line card went 12-3. That is the clearest takeaway from the slate. Moneylines were good too at 9-6, but the spread market was where the model really separated itself.
The best work showed up in the stronger edge spots. Detroit beat Boston 4-1, Milwaukee handled Miami 5-2, and Arizona took care of Toronto 6-2. Those were not cheap survives or one-run escapes. They were the kinds of games where the model’s stronger side read held up cleanly and also turned into usable margin. That matters, because a 3-1 top-play record means the strongest opinions on the board actually showed up.
The run-line card was even better because it kept finding the right side of close-game pricing. Washington +1.5 got there in a 7-5 loss at Pittsburgh. Atlanta +1.5 cashed in a 3-1 loss in Philadelphia. St. Louis +1.5 also got home in a 7-5 loss at Houston. Those are exactly the spots that can turn an ordinary day into a strong one when the model is reading margin better than the market.
There were still misses. The Angels lost 4-1 to San Diego in one of the stronger edge spots, and the Dodgers failed outright in Colorado. Totals also lagged behind the rest of the board at 7-8. But those misses never changed the shape of the slate. The strongest plays held up, and the run-line market was where the model really did its best work.
