April 16 was a run-line day more than anything else. The moneyline card finished 4-6, totals split at 5-5, and run lines were the one clear positive at 6-4. That is the simplest way to read the slate. The model did not pick enough outright winners, but it still found value in games where the underdog stayed inside the number.
That showed up right away in several losses that still worked on the spread. Washington lost 8-7 in Pittsburgh, but Nationals +1.5 got there. The Angels were run over 11-4 by the Yankees, yet Angels +1.5 still cashed because that was the listed run-line play. San Diego also lost 5-2 to Seattle, but Padres +1.5 held up. Those are not glamorous wins, but they are the reason the day stayed afloat.
The cleaner results came where the model lined up all three markets correctly. Tampa Bay handled the White Sox 5-3, cashing the moneyline, run line, and under. Cleveland did the same in a 4-2 win over Baltimore. Those games mattered because the rest of the side card was much shakier. Cincinnati lost 3-0 to San Francisco, Houston fell 3-2 to Colorado as a stronger favorite, and Oakland lost 9-6 to Texas in one of the more notable misses.
Totals were neither a strength nor a drag. The board split 5-5, which fits the feel of the slate. Some unders landed cleanly, especially in Brewers-Blue Jays, Rays-White Sox, Orioles-Guardians, and Mariners-Padres. But there was no broad edge there. The real story was that the model found the better side of the spread more often than it found the outright winner.
