OddsRX brings sports research, matchup analysis, educational articles, video, and probability tools into one connected experience. This research hub explains the ideas behind the numbers. The OddsRX app is the place to explore its interactive boards and matchups.
Meet Dr. Cover
OddsRX is owned by RoCoLu LLC and run by Dr. Cover. Dr. Cover holds a doctoral degree. His studies involved years of research, working with statistics and examining published research. His longstanding interests in sports, financial markets, and data analysis led him to bring those interests together in sports modeling.
From personal models to OddsRX
As legal sports betting became more widespread, Dr. Cover began applying decades of education and professional experience to developing models for his own use. He later created OddsRX to share that work and help others make more informed decisions.
The aim is also educational: readers who want to go further can explore the mathematics behind a probability, a price, or a calculated edge. OddsRX brings those explanations alongside the tools so readers can better understand the numbers they are using.
Our areas of research
OddsRX has done extensive work on the NFL, MLB, and NBA. College football and college basketball are newer research initiatives.
What you can learn here
A probability, a market price, and a final score answer different questions. A probability describes uncertainty about an outcome. A market price determines the payout available at a particular time. A final score tells you what happened once. Reading those together requires more care than simply choosing the team with the higher number.
The guides on this site explain that process: identify the market, read the selected model and its timestamp, compare like-for-like probabilities, and consider how sensitive the result is to uncertain inputs. Our calculators make the arithmetic inspectable, with definitions, formulas, and examples alongside each tool.
The research hub and the app
- Research articles and recaps provide the written context for a topic, matchup, or set of results. Check the date, source information, and scope of each article.
- Video and audio provide walkthroughs and discussion. A clip is a starting point; the underlying assumptions and the time of the observation still matter.
- Calculators translate odds, estimate break-even probabilities, and show how a supplied probability affects expected value. A calculator computes from its inputs; it does not verify that those inputs are accurate.
- The app provides the interactive experience. Model availability, supported markets, and displayed labels can differ by sport and by the view you select.
A useful way to start
- Read the matchup guide to understand the difference between a winner projection and a price comparison.
- Work through the probability, edge, and expected-value example. Repeat it with a different price to see why the same team can be attractive at one number and unattractive at another.
- Open a matchup and check the market definition, selected model, current price, and available timestamp. Missing or stale data limits the conclusion you can draw.
- Use the calculator explanations to test your arithmetic. Treat small calculated advantages with caution when reasonable input changes could erase them.
What these numbers cannot tell you
No displayed probability guarantees an outcome. An event assigned a 60% chance can lose, and a correct winner does not prove that its price was good. Model error, changing information, market rules, and the difference between a displayed quote and an obtainable quote can all change a comparison.
Historical results also depend on how the sample was selected, whether predictions were recorded before an event, and how stakes, pushes, and voids were handled. A few successful examples are not enough to establish a repeatable advantage. Look for those details before interpreting a performance claim.
